Dr. Olufemi Obembe
Olufemi Obembe holds a PhD in Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 2006. He has been working as an academic staff in the university system since 2001 starting with the then University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) before moving over to Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in 2007. His major areas of specialization is Industrial Organization and Business Economics, specifically his research works have focussed on the role of corporate governance and product market competition on the performance of corporate organizations and he has published both in local and international peer-reviewed journals.
Olufemi Obembe has also been engaged in searching for solutions to the problem of unemployment and poverty in Africa and in particular Nigeria. His strategy has been to examine the role of entrepreneurship development and the deployment of science and technology towards economic advancement. His passion for poverty reduction has in the recent time extended his research endeavour towards social protection policies such as health insurance, cash transfer, public works programme for youths and microfinance policies. Indeed, his effort in collaboration with his other colleagues led to the wining of a research grant provided by Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) in 2014.
Olufemi Obembe was recognized as a leader of tomorrow through the award funded by Ambassador Andrew Young, the former mayor of Atlanta and former American Ambassador to the United Nations. The fund which was designated for scholars in developing country especially African and Caribbean was awarded to him in 2011 to pursue his postdoctoral training at the Department of Economics, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America.
Olufemi Obembe is currently a Reader at the Department of Economics, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and also an associate lecturer at the Department of Management and Accounting also at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
